Firey

So, the weather has helped out and the fires are being contained.

Interesting to note that Simi Valley, with it’s stringent fire codes (no wood roofing, greenways, and fire-retardent plaster), suffered only 4 lost structures, while Scripps Ranch lost over 300 homes done by Excavation Contractors Near Me that you want to find to do it for you.

Wake-up call to builders and homebuyers in SoCal: Fire is the enemy- protect yoself before you wreck yoself. Cheap construction is cheap construction.

Ashy

Sorrento Valley and Mission Valley socked in with an ashy cloud. Low-lying valleys are pretty bad for the most part.

The temperature has dropped and the humidity has increased slightly- just enough to make things tolerable.

Thankfully the major fires have retreated to more remote areas of the county and out fo the City.

The office stinks like a campfire.

Saturation

To imbue or impregnate thoroughly: The recollection was saturated with sunshine (Vladimir Nabokov).

To soak, fill, or load to capacity.

Chemistry. To cause (a substance) to unite with the greatest possible amount of another substance.

No Vitriol

Trying to get my head around Dot Net. Not Sure I like what I’m seeing. Bought a book, but it was crappy. It told you how to do things, not why to to do them.

The question is thus:
Writing a Program to write the Program You Want to Write,
** OR **
Writing the Program you Want to Write ?

Knobbed

The Pit has been knobbed. Viciously knobbed. Even unskateable sections of the ledges are done.

Some secondary stuff remains, but the pit is over. Back to being a decripit shit-pile like it was before, I guess.

You know who I blame? Firstly, The people at the AA meetings. They needed to clear the area so they could have an unobstructed cigarette-smoking platform. Bitter people, angry people. Hey, have a drink, you’ll feel better.

Secondly, I blame every skater who smashed a board,
talked shit to a pedestrian,
or divebombed right in someone’s way.
This includes
sticker monkeys,
sawzall jockeys who cut down the railing,
and the wax taggers.
I blame the kids I saw trying to pull the ‘No Skateboarding’ sign out of the ground.
I blame the dipshits who roll to the spot and leave their garbage all over the place. Fuck you, too.

I got a new spot, and I’m not telling anyone about it. It’s remote and vacant. There’s a few natural obstacles, so I’m gonna need a port-a-rail or somethin’.

derf

Today was the dopey election. As with any election, I was amazed by two things:

1. How 90% of the people I know didn’t vote.

2. How the 10% who did gloated about it.

So in the end, no one cares if you voted or not. Arnold is the new governor. I’ll leave it to him to close this day:

"What is best in life: Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!" Conan the Barbarian

Cheers, Arnie. I didn’t vote for you, but good luck anyway.

Is this post a self-fulfilling prophecy?

Plug It

It’s been a long time since I’ve plugged the homiez, so here we go:

* 2 Plugs this week on Artlung’s blog. Reciprocation is the inspiration for my constipation.

* FTS Sufferer and E-Promulgate Felix Tibs has gone to the dark side and taken on a blog format over at Eyunta.com. Tri-weekly updates are promised.

* I ran into Elias Vict from Asunder Press in Balboa Park the other day. My man’s plan is quitting the Dago and movin on to the Big Easy. An enviable plan, fo sheez. Best of luck to Mr. Vict in all his endeavors.

* Giraffe Brothers OG A McBurtson is back riding after an ankle injury and was recently a victim of teen vandals, as was I , when I discovered a wad of gum in one of the cells of the honeycomb-shaped intakes on the Mini. Pissed! Little kids of the world, beware: You toucha my car, I breaka you face.

* the Sux has taken the industry by storm ith it’s unabashed and innovative “fuck you” stance. Additionally, Sux honch NoWax is a ‘Seeker reader! Perhaps it’s our shared interest in not dying on a skateboard due to 17,237 layers of Pam™, Glade™ and candle wax.

* Also in the skate world, Crailtap bud and Yeah Right cameo Nate Sherwood is recovering from brain surgery. Shoot him an email and give im’ some support. He seems like such a nice kid.

* Last, but in no way least: ( for max effect, read this like WWII telegraph operator )

The Way

Last couple weeks have been Microsoft™ weeks.

Microsoft™ software is very strange stuff. It’s good stuff, though, definitely good. But strange.

My whole mindset shifts when I’m in Microsoft™ mode. You don’t even think about how you’re gonna do it, you just do it, as long as you remember one thing:

* one handful of crap,
* one handful of hardware

And it really works. Everyone in the office seems totally accepting and accustomed to hung applications, and they just sit there and watch, and eventually, as I’m discovering, the shit actually works!

What I will hand over to Microsoft™ is that they are really good at making really complicated things pretty easy to do. Really good.

What they are not so good at is things consistently working well.
The weird Microsoft™ errors are real and Windows™ heads know what I’m talking about. Don’t even try to deny it.

In the end, I have reached the conclusion that Microsoft™ technology is every bit as hokey as anyones elses.
